Jos\u00e9 van Dijck (UU) and dr. Claire Stolwijk (TNO) in De Koninklijke Industrieele Groote Club in Amsterdam. Professor Van Dijck will elaborate on the influence of online platforms on our public interests. Public values such as transparency, privacy and democratic control are central to building a European digital infrastructure. In this context, Dr. Stolwijk takes us into the state of affairs regarding digital sovereignty in the Netherlands and Europe and the opportunities and challenges that still lie ahead.<br><br><em>Do you have to deal with data exchange within your field of work? Jos\u00e9 van Dijck<\/strong> has been university professor of media and digital society at Utrecht University since 2017. She was previously president of the KNAW, received an honorary doctorate from Lund University in 2019, and received the Spinoza Prize from NWO in 2021. Her research focuses on media, social media and media technologies and in particular on the influence of online platforms on public values in various sectors of society. Together with two co-authors, she published the book The Platform Society (Oxford University Press) in which the impact of online platforms in four sectors (mobility, news, education and healthcare) is investigated. Van Dijck is research leader of the interdisciplinary group Governing the Digital Society at Utrecht University.<br><br><strong>Dr. Claire Stolwijk<\/strong> is a senior researcher and consultant at TNO. She specialises in policy and business models around digitisation, industrial policy and innovation management. She leads large European and national projects for various domains, with a focus on the digitization of the manufacturing industry. Before that, she worked as a senior finance analyst at Unilever. She has a business background and holds a PhD from TU Delft in the field of innovation strategies of chip companies. She recently published the TNO paper &#8220;Bridging the Dutch and European Digital Sovereignty gap&#8221; with co-authors. This paper discusses digital sovereignty from the perspective of policy and technology, but also from an economic, social and geopolitical perspective.
